The treatment and management of disease by combining immunotherapy with chemotherapy
Immunochemotherapy refers to the treatment and management of disease by combining immunotherapy with chemotherapy. Chemotherapy or radiotherapy alone are often insufficient to completely eradicate neoplastic lesions, therefore standard anticancer treatment regimens often combine chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy alongside immunotherapies. The goal of combination therapy is to improve treatment outcomes for patients. By allowing for a drug dosage reductions, the severity of side effects classically associated with cancer treatment may be reduced. Immunochemotherapy also aims to reduce the chances of chemo-resistance in malignant cells.1
